I just picked up a copy of the September issue of Fantasy & Science Fiction, and it has a great short story by Laura Kasischke (which I think is her first in the speculative fiction vein; she has published broadly in poetry and literary fiction). The story is told in the first person by an old man suffering from dementia, and is disturbing, compressed (the way that good poetry is compressed), disorienting, and very cool. Think of it as the ultimate unreliable narrator. Highly recommended.
The Iowa Review has a sample of her poetry available here.
